Renowned for creating stylish seafood dishes with local ingredients, multi-award-winning Saundersfoot restaurant, Coast, was a restaurant that both myself and my partner were looking forward to visiting having heard many raving reviews, not just about the food they produce, but the setting too….
As the saying goes, first impressions count, and my gosh, wasn’t our first impression of Coast truly sensational! In fact, the breath-taking coastal drive down to Coast is what set the tone for the entire evening having been met by panoramic shoreline views at sunset.
After spending some time outside ofthe restaurant to take in these beautiful views, the chilly autumn breeze soongot the better of myself and my partner and we made our way through to the restaurant where the tremendous views continued…
Having been seated at a table beside the restaurants’ sea-facing glass wall, we continued to admire the stunning view whilst scanning what I can only describe as a dictionary of wines!
Finally settling on a bottle of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc (which went down very well), we then browsed through head chef, Thomas Hine’s, refined, seafood orientated menu.
To begin, we shared a trio of tasty appetisers, one of which was a Crispy Oyster accompanied with Miso Mayonnaise - a brave choice for me as a new seafood eater! However, I was pleasantly surprised to have enjoyed this dish, particularly its crunchy, yet soft texture and fiery flavour.
Moving on to mains, tender cuts of Cod took centre stage forthe both of us. Uniquely topped with slices of grape, this delicious cod creation was both refreshing and light, yet with a fruity twist.
“Room for dessert” – is the question EVER no?... Surely it can’t be with a dessert menu as intriguing as Coasts’ - even reading the words ‘Peanut Butter Parfait’ had my mouth watering. Likewise, my partner simply couldn’t resist the thought of a raspberry choux bun.
Accompanied with confit lime, which for me, was a little too zingy, and a decadent chocolate mousse which certainly made up for this, the peanut butter parfait is an ideal dessert for any peanut-lover that is looking to indulge whilst the raspberry choux bun is an ideal choice for those looking to finish their dining experience with a light and sweet treat.
On a final note, the service that we received throughout the duration of our dining experience at Coast was impeccable – the waiting team were attentive, knowledgeable and hospitable on every level.
With matchless views of sky and sea to accompany an exquisite dining experience, Coast Saundersfoot is what I believe to be the culinary pearl of the Pembrokeshire coast - a must-visit for diners looking for memorable dining experience.
